PET (positron emission tomography) is a technology to image biochemical and physiological functions in the body by using a radioactive source (tracer) in the body.

We use PET for:

  • biochemical and physiological functions in hospital patients
  • biochemical and physiological functions in rodents

Advantages of PET:

  • biochemical, metabolical and physiological imaging
  • multiple contrasts by different tracers

Disadvantages of PET:

  • high ionizing/radioactive radiation
  • low resolution

Compare PET to other modalities: MRI, CT, OI
