OI (optical imaging) is a technology to image light from bioluminescent/fluorescent light emitting cells/molecules in gene-modified animals.

We use OI for:

  • anatomical and functional imaging in rodents
  • cell imaging

Advantages of OI:

  • fast and live imaging
  • different wavelength/colors for different cells
  • no ionizing radiation

Disadvantages of OI:

  • low light/image intensity
  • reflections and scattering of light

Compare OI to other modalities: MRI, PET, CT
