MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is a technology to image structure and function of tissues and organs in the body.

We use MRI for:

  • functional imaging of human and rodent brain
  • anatomical rodant imaging
  • cell imaging

Advantages of MRI:

  • high resolution
  • multiple contrasts
  • no ionizing radiation

Disadvantages of MRI:

  • high initial and running costs
  • only hydrogen/water imaging (most systems)
  • metal in the body can cause image artifacts and injuries
  • limited metabolic imaging
  • high acoustic noise, vibrations and partly claustrophobia

Compare MRI to other modalities: PET, CT, OI
